Cruelty Free living in LATAM

Te Protejo

1 Projects
Bringing Cruelty Free lifestyle into latinamerican consumers to raise awareness on animal testing and other animal rights issues.
The consumer community in Latin American countries are becoming increasingly interested in responsible consumption topics and demanding clear information from cosmetic brands about animal testing policies and other issues. Our Project aims to bring this work to latinamerican countries that don’t have any information regarding this issue and no other local organization working in this field. With a new interactive website that provides information for consumers from Peru, Colombia, Brasil and México called www.vivecrueltyfree.org and the development of #ViveCrueltyFreeLatam, our free app that gathers information about cruelty free brands and stores available in each country.

The Story

NGO Te Protejo is an organization that promotes the use of cosmetics that are not tested on animals in Chile and Peru, along with other initiatives that are respectful towards the environment and animals. It has a team of over 50 volunteers that everyday work educating consumers.

Our work it’s divided into three areas: Information and education of consumers, organization of massive events to spread awareness and certification of Chilean cosmetic brands that don’t test on animals.

Main activities of NGO Te Protejo
Consumer Education / Event Production / Certification

The main objective of the organization is to empower shoppers, to explain the context of animal testing and rase awareness about the animal issues.

We believe that through informed shopping decisions you can make changes in the market. In our communication, we avoid the use of violent pictures or aggressive language; we provide fun facts and information about brands and cruelty free products. This differentiates us from other animal rights organizations that pursuit similar objectives.

Our NGO brings the concept of animal care to daily life choices, that are simple, fun and easy.

We work in the research and have developed a unique list of cruelty free brands available in Chile and Peru, keeping it constantly updated. The list is distributed through our website www.teprotejo.cl, our free app #ViveCrueltyFree and a printed version that it’s given away by activists in events and activities related to our area of interest.

Besides, we provide information and updates about the cruelty free brands available in the Chilean market and data about the status of animal testing Chilean and worldwide. We also have a blog, where we upload daily news related to our topics, product reviews, among others. It has over fifteen volunteers work on it, more than 60.000 monthly visits and over 90.000 social media followers. Additionally, we have a YouTube channel that has five volunteers creating constant content about cruelty free cosmetics, make up tutorials, environmental care and green lifestyle tips, through entertaining and dynamic videos, with over 4.000 followers.

We want to bring this work to latinamerican countries that don’t have any information regarding this issue and no other local organization working in this field. With a new interactive website that provides information for consumers from Peru, Colombia, Brasil and México called www.vivecrueltyfreelatam.org and the development of #ViveCrueltyFreeLatam, our free app that gathers information about cruelty free brands and stores available in each country.

Our first goal is to create a Latin-American website to bring this knowledge to all the countries in the region, this will require for us to reach our starting goal of $6.043USD. If we reach our second goal of $9.430 USD we will be able to develop our ViveCrueltyFree app for each country. Each country means an extra cost of $847 USD. Help us reach all of our goals!

Potential Challenges

Our first challenge is to get funding from you! We know that this issue it's not seen as relevant for everyone, but we truly believe that when people start worrying for one issue in their livestyle, they will inevitably start thinking about others.

See us as a huge starting point for animal issues in South America.

Other challenges:

To stablish a cruelty free topic in other Latin-American countries, who have low to non information regarding this issue.

Also, it will be dificult to have a group of volunteers in each country willing to help develop local information. We need to find local suppliers, and distributors from each country, so working from one main headquarter it's always a challenge.
